It has been possible in a few instances to convict some little corner grocer of charging a few paltry cents more for an article than the. government approved of, but it seems impossible to reach these robbers in high places who take the entire nation hy the throat and compel them to pay tribute in millions to their greed and insatiable hoggishness. Such wolfishness is what gives the-socialists and the bolshevists their ability to gain converts to their cause. The coal barons, piling up their millions of ill gotten profits at the expense of the people who are compelled to pay tribute to their insatiate greed or to perish with cold, are the strongest friends of anarchy and crime that can be imagined. The man who is compelled to go without the necessaries of life in order to pay the coal robbers the exorbitant prices they have demanded and received for coal the past season, is in just the right mood to listen to the demands of the socialists that the people take over all industries, and especially all natural monopolies, such as coal and other products of the mines and the soil. In fact, if the coal robbers are to be allowed.to continue their unjustifiable and indefensible robbery of. the public, it would be well for the people to rise up and demand that the government take over and operate the coal mines for the benefit of all the people. While this would, without doubt, result in increased cost of mining, and in the usual inefficiency and waste...
